Dear God

"Dear God,

"I think I'll dress up today... just in case you have something special in mind.

"Every morning when you push the covers back, you're ripping the wrapper off a shiny, new present, a day not quite like any other you've ever lived before or like any you'll live again. Somehow, God never gets tired of watching the sun come up, seeing the flowers drip with dew, or giving you a day like today full of new things for you to do, to learn, and to enjoy."

I found the cutest little book of prayers the other day while looking through books in my grandmother’s home. It's crazy how something so simple yet so sweet can be so eye-opening. This little page in this little book changed my perspective on how I wake up in the morning.

A lot of my mornings while deep in depression consisted of the thought that I'd rather just stay in bed and avoid the whole day altogether. With my hope in Jesus and my surrender at His feet, my mornings look a lot different. I know the day ahead is a day that God created for me to conquer by the power of Jesus’ blood. It's a day that God has prepared to be part of my story... a story that He is writing, a story that is for my good and His glory. That should make you ready to jump out of bed in the morning!

Yes, it's still hard to get out of bed some days. Yes, some days the battle feels heavier. But I know that God has equipped me to face the battles, and even in the fight, His love and goodness towards me never ceases.

I encourage you to look at each new day as a gift from God. Keep your eyes open. No matter how tough the day is, God is placing little blessings right in front of you. They may be hard to see right now, but just wait until you can look back and see that they were there.

When I struggle to get out of bed and when my heart is hurting, I remember the little passage from this book... God never tires of writing our days... and in Him and His purpose for us, we won’t tire of living them. Same days will still feel hard and heavy, but dress up today. God has something special for you.

How can you look at today as a gift? What little blessings can you find on the tougher days? He promised you they would be there. And He’s the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

"Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!" Philippians 4:4
